Post Graduate Programmes, Scholarship and Placement in IIM, Bangalore


The two-year Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) is the flagship programme of the IIM. It is designed to enable students to acquire the skills and capabilities that will enable them to reach responsible Global positions in management.

The number of applicants admitted to this programme is limited to around 240. The Programme revolves around the principle that world-class business leaders are not mass-produced; they are nurtured and developed with personalized care and attention, in small work groups and teams, and in a practical, application-oriented user-friendly environment.
The programme lays the foundation for conceptual and analytical reasoning, and gives the students an insight into the dynamics of the business environment.

It prepares students to manage and lead in global business scenario which is getting increasingly complex and dynamic. The post Graduate Programme lasts six trimesters, spread over two years, with a summer project in between the two years.

The first year students are exposed to basic concepts in the areas of Marketing, Finance, Personnel Management and Human Resources Management, Quantitative methods, Operations and Behavioral Sciences through the 'core courses'. These lay the foundation for all the functional areas of management help develop problem solving skills.

In the second year, students specialize in functional areas of their interest. There is greater emphasis on the application of knowledge gained in the form of projects, group exercises and case discussions. Guest lectures supplement regular course work while the core Business Policy and Strategy course integrates the learning gained from the first year basic disciplines. Students are encouraged to take up dissertation work and to do a project on 'Contemporary Concerns' under the guidance of faculty.

Post Graduate Programme in Public Policy and Management (PGPPM)

The two-year Post Graduate Programme in Public Policy and Management (PGPPM) of Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) has entered its eighth year. Catalyzed by the Government of India and UNDP in the year 2002, the PGPPM was conceived as a pioneering programme in public policy designed by India's leading business school. The programme presents an innovative and socially relevant approach to public policy, besides being power packed with path breaking insights about winning policy making and management strategies. For All India Services and Central Services Group 'A' officials participation is sponsored by Department of Personnel and Training, Government of India. With effect from 2008 academic year, the programme has been open to all eligible non-government participants from PSUs, Financial Institutions and NGOs.

PGPPM participants with requisite CGPAs have the option to pursue the Fellow Programme (Doctoral Programme) in the Institute. This opportunity has been availed by some of our successful participants belonging to All India Services and Central Services Group "A".

Post-Graduate Programme in Software Enterprise Management

The Post-Graduate Programme in Software Enterprise Management (PGSEM) leading to a Post-Graduate Diploma in Software Enterprise Management is an executive general management education programme designed for the specific needs of professionals working in the software and information technology industry in India. As part of its drive to foster Excellence through Partnerships, IIMB launched the PGSEM in the year 1998 at its Bangalore campus. With more than ten years of experience running and fine-tuning the programme to cater to the changing needs of the industry, the programme is available to participants at Bangalore. The curriculum is continuously reviewed and updated based on a thorough review of the programme and the changing demands of the industry.

The programme is run under the aegis of the Center for Software and Information Technology Management (CSITM). The CEOs and/or top executives of companies that have provided endowment and support to the CSITM (referred to as partner companies) are on the advisory board of the CSITM to ensure that the program is in tune with the needs of the industry. The partner companies are Infosys Technologies Ltd., Intel Technologies India Pvt Ltd., Motorola India Electronics Pvt. Ltd., Oracle India Pvt. Ltd., Sasken Communication Technologies Ltd., Sun Micro Systems India Pvt. Ltd. and Wipro Technologies Ltd.

The PGSEM endeavors to provide the most current executive general management education to middle and senior professionals of the software and information technology industry who seek to pursue a career in management. The programme aims to transform professionals with strong technical knowledge to business leaders with equally strong management knowledge and a global perspective. IIMB is proud to have partnered the Indian software and information technology industry on its journey to becoming a dominant force in the global market.

Several distinctive features of the programme are designed to meet the special needs of the participants of this programme, while maintaining the credit requirements and rigor of the regular program. The programme has been designed such that a participant can graduate with the diploma at the end of two and a half academic years, while continuing to work at his/her regular place of employment. Each academic year is subdivided into four quarters of eleven weeks each. The regular course load in a quarter is three courses of three credits each. Each three-credit course consists of 30 hours of classroom contact. Participants normally have 9 hours of classroom contact per week, with classes scheduled on Friday mornings and Saturdays. In special cases, students are allowed to increase their load by taking courses they have missed/failed in earlier quarters, or by undertaking projects in addition to regular classes.

Participants of the PGSEM, with the approval of their employers, can avail of exchange opportunities with the universities with which IIMB has exchange arrangements. In addition, participants can take courses in top universities when they are posted outside the country, and have the credits transferred to the PGSEM.

Executive Post Graduate Programme in Management (EPGP)

The Executive Post Graduate Programme in Management (EPGP) is an intensive one year program designed to enhance skills and capabilities essential for responsible positions at senior management levels. Challenging, widespread and globally oriented program's objective is to produce future leaders who can handle the dynamic corporate environment.

Designed for professionals with substantial work experience, the key attribute of this program is its focus on emerging economies. These emerging economies have enormous potential and business opportunities. Sustaining spectacular growth requires capable senior executives with diverse skills to handle numerous challenges, which is in short supply.
To meet this gap, the EPGP program has a distinct focus on leadership skills essential for senior management teams and is adapted from best-practices in industry. The interdisciplinary nature of the program will enrich your experience both inside and outside the classrooms.Apart from the pedagogy of the course structure and regular team assignments, a comprehensive project component provides additional impetus for group interaction and peer learning.

The selection process is designed to ensure significant diversity in academic, business and cultural background. During the course of this program, interaction with your peers and faculty will augment many skills. Appreciation of differing perspectives, effective communication, conflict management, negotiation and mobilizing individuals towards common goals-all essential ingredients of effective management practices.

Scholarships

1. Aditya Birla Scholarship

This merit-based scholarship is given to PGP students of both the first and second years. The students who are granted the scholarship during the first year are eligible to apply for renewal of the scholarship in the second year provided they belong to top 25% of the batch in the first year. The scholarship amount is Rs.1.75 lakhs per student.

2. Uday Nayak Scholarship

This merit-cum-means scholarship is instituted in the memory of Uday Nayak, a PGP student, by his parents. The scholarship of Rs. 10,000 is given to a second-year student.

3. T Thomas Scholarship

This merit-cum-means scholarship of Rs. 1 lakh is given by Hindustan Unilever Limited to one PGP second-year student. The selection is based on the following criteria:

Academic Performance
Holistic Business Thinkin

4. OPJEMS Scholarship (started 2007-08)

This merit-based scholarship of Rs.1.25 lakhs is given by the OP Jindal Group to one student of each academic year.

5. Rajesh Kaushik Memorial Scholarship (started 2008-2009)

This is a merit-cum-means scholarship of Rs. 1.5 lakhs given per year.

7. Ocwen Financial Solutions Private Limited (started 2007-2008)

Ocwen Scholarship for Competence in Academics and Research (OSCAR) is awarded to one student. The scholarship amount is Rs.1.80 lakhs. The award is based on a research paper submitted by the students.

8. Cognizant Technology Solutions - B'izard Scholar (instituted during 2008-2009)

The B'izard scholarship is awarded to students of exceptional academic and leadership achievements and scholarly promise who are committed to serving their communities and for whom further study in Management would be particularly appropriate. The scholarship amount is Rs. 3 lakhs for the winner, Rs. 2 lakhs for first runner-up and Rs. 1 lakh for second runner-up.

Placements 2009

Leading global consulting firms Boston Consulting Group, McKinsey & Co, Bain & Co, Arthur D Little, Deloitte, Accenture, and Diamond visited the campus; this year Booz & Co recruited students for the first time during Final Placements. Renowned PE firms such as ChrysCapital and Baring Private Equity also recruited students. Some of the major banks that recruited this year were Standard Chartered, American Express, Citigroup, HSBC, etc.
First-time participants: Renowned firms like Booz & Co, Aviva, TVS Capital visited the IIMB campus for the first time for Final Placements, bringing diversity to the list of recruiters both in profiles and geographies on offer. UAE Exchange International offered positions in Dubai and the Middle-East, increasing the global reach of IIM Bangalore students.
